Justin Hughes, Bringing Home The Gold For Jordel- Shirmel Gumbs Win Silver for Pastry Chef of the Year- Anguilla Awarded Spirit of the Competition – Anguilla Hold Silver in Team of the Year Competition:
The Taste of the Caribbean 2012 came to an end last night Sunday June 24th, in grand style. The teams were fired up and anxiously awaited the judges final result. When the dust cleared, Anguilla held on to its Silver medal for Team of the Year, Justin Hughes, was awarded a gold medal for Chef of the year, and Shirmel Gumbs upped her game and won a silver for Pastry Chef of the Year, and first time competing chef Claudio Gumbs, won a bronze for best fish cooking individually.
All in all, the winners came from all over the Caribbean and no one team dominated the competition.
Haiti, won best island for Taste of the Islands, Barbados won Best Bartender, USVI won best Pastry, Trinidad won Chef of the year, and Puerto Rico won best Team of the year. great camaraderie between Anguilla and Haiti.
Joseph Hodge upgraded his position from last year and won a Bronze for Jr. Chef of the year, Taffy Hodge won a Bronze for bartender, Darren Connor won a Bronze for best beef individual, Claudio Gumbs won a bronze for best Seafood individual, and Johnathan Hughes won Bronze for best chef cooking with diary.
All in all, the team did well, and competion was fierce and the level of talent of this competition continue to be increased. We return home tomorrow afternoon.
